Contribution of Lake-Dune Patterning to the Dune Height of Mega-Dunes in the Badain Jaran Sand Sea, Northern China

Mega-dunes in the lake group area of Badain Jaran Sand Sea, China, are generally taller than dunes non-lake area. This spatial distribution dune heights may provide a new perspective on controversy regarding dunes’ formation mechanism. In this study, we calculated relative and slopes individual based digital elevation model, confirmed height abnormally tall sand sea. It was also found that more 10° common those Based meteorological observations, coupled with measurement water content layers, propose conceptual model demonstrating moisture exchange between lakes soil via non-rainfall will humidify form favorable accumulation environment for aeolian sand, thus increasing heights. Although long-term observations yet to be carried out, present study can used as evidence understanding basis assessing groundwater utilization deserts.
